Shopping Cart Sorting

I am looking for a way to consolidate the cart and invoice. Again I have seen this on sites before.

 

To make the example easier lets say i have a clothing store.

 

I sell shirts in different colors.

 

Shirt-a in blue

Shirt-a in red

 

 

 

now in the shopping cart it would be listed twice. two images of the shirt and all the details.

 

i want to be able to consolidate the information so it would list something like this

 

Product photo: product name/id

1x - Blue

1x - Red

 

 

If anyone has any advice for this it would be great.
