Guest Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Can anyone help me, I have still got the warning: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /kunden/homepages/18/d213690829/htdocs/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file I have tried to CHMOD the configure.php file in includes to 444 and 644 but still get the warning, where am i going wrong? All help gratefully received!!
germ Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 If you've been doing the CHMOD with an FTP program, logon and use your site's Control Panel instead. Sometimes FTP don't cut it... If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. Guest Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Sorry to sound dumb, but how do i do that, I go to tools, file manager and then locate configure.php right, then what?
germ Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 In most control panels there is a "File Manager". Somewhere in there (most likely) is where you need to go to change the permissions. When you find the right place, you'll probably be presented with a 3 x 3 matrix of checkboxes for "permissions". You'll have "Read", "Write", and "Exec" (or "Execute") permissions for "User", "Group", and "Other". Anyway, get your /catalog/includes/configure.php file up, check these boxes ONLY: "Read" and "Write" for "User" "Read" for "Group" and "Other". And apply those permissions. If that doesn't stop the warning message, take away "Write" permissions for "User" (making the file read-only for everyone). I wish I could be more explicit, but not all Control Panels have the same look and feel. You'll have to figure yours out. If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. Guest Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I have the configure.php file open and do not see any entries for: user; group or other... What am I missing ? germ Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 It shouldn't be "open". You're just not in the right place in your Control Panel. I reckon. Guest Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 You say that but, these are the choices I have under the "Tools" category. Tools Database Backup Banner Manager Cache Control Define Languages File Manager Send Email Newsletter Manager Server Info Who's Online If not tools/filemanager/catalog/includes/configure.php then what is is? It shouldn't be "open". You're just not in the right place in your Control Panel. I reckon.
germ Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Dude, you are totally in the wrong place... You're not even supposed to be in osC. You need to be in the Control Panel provided by your Web host. This CANNOT be done using osC. If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. Guest Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 See, I said I was lost. Ok, My web host Panel allows me 2 choices: Owner & Web User I assumed it's read/write for owner and read (only) for web user? ...that didn't work but when I took "write" off for the Owner, my error message went away so I put "write" on for web user and didn't get the error message either... does that sound right??? Oh, and thanks for your help! Dude, you are totally in the wrong place... You're not even supposed to be in osC. You need to be in the Control Panel provided by your Web host. germ Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Whatever makes osC happy is OK by me. ;) I you find you can't save it after editing it, you might have to put the "write" back on for owner until it's saved.
