dahammer2 Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 Hiyas, couldn't find this info on the site, a question for the developers or maybe Harold Is it possible to mirror these forum messages? I was tossing up a oscommerce type FAQ site based on the messages in this forum. Bassically many questions come up again and again, and I could catalog 'some' under faq type categories i.e. contributions>payment gateways>paypal>(dicussion threads). As well, I was thinking of providing some better search facilities, such as full text searchs for relvancy etc. It would be non interactive, meaning, there would be no discussion, it would just be a organised archive. It would also be registration free/advertisement free for maximum help to the community thoughts? Hamish[/b]
Ian Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 It depends on what you mean by mirrored, the forums are already 'mirrored' by various news servers. See http://www.oscommerce.com/community.php If you are thinking of creating an archive you might want to consider a script called mhonarc. It is used to turn mh mail files into html. I used this many years ago for turning newsgroup postings into web pages. Don't worry if you are on windows. Exporting the posts to a text file and mhonarc will quite happily eat them. It also has add ons to provide search facilities. I think it's at www.mhonarc.org and it's GPL :D Trust me, I'm an Accountant.
jon_l Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 That is an excellent idea. Though maybe the best place would be a read only 'FAQ' forum, with someone posting useful information as it arises on the other forums. It might go some way to stopping the amount of duplicate requests / posts on the forums. Jon.
