DejaVu Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I've been trying to build my site sifting through hundreds of contribution, which is great. But I've install/uninstalled loads of different variations of the same contribution with fixes/bug repairs etc and it keeps screwing my site up! I've now completely deleted my site once again (database saved via EP 2.76f) and need some assistance in working this out. I have downloaded Oscommerce RC1 as it's the only one available on the site at the moment. The contributions I'm trying to implement are :- Easy Populate (http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,500/category,3/search,Easy+populate) Ultra Images (http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1642/category,all/search,Ultra+Pics) Lightbox 2/Ultra Images Add-on (http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=282105&hl=lightbox) I also tried to use a pink template available on here as a contribution as well, but had too many problems. I think I will need to install STS as well now instead. Everytime I've tried to install a contribution, I've either gotten the wrong one, cant understand the fixes description (not clear!) or it just completely broke my site through uploading/overwriting already eddited files (my own fault!) Now I've decided to restart over and seek help in finding the compatible contributions I need. Mainly, to start with would be Easy Populate with Multi Images that wouldnt mess up would be a good start. Any assistance, as always, is hugely appreciated.
♥toyicebear Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 If you wish a little bit easier install of contributions, you can get the latest osc version previous to RC1 at source forge If you choose to use STS , be aware that installing contributions will be even more difficult... (except for some which have spesific sts instructions included) But these 3 should be easy to add to RC1 too... Easy Populate (http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,500/category,3/search,Easy+populate) Ultra Images (http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1642/category,all/search,Ultra+Pics) Lightbox 2/Ultra Images Add-on (http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=282105&hl=lightbox) But if so you need to do the install manually ..not just drop over files from the contributions packages. DejaVu Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 I havent attempted to make a manual install yet, unless the instructions are clearly available within the contribution. If there isnt one, I've heard that a file compare program is available, but also not looked into that because I'm worried I'll get lost knee deep in coding. Is there a File Compare program your recommend that works well?
DejaVu Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 Just tried the older version (MileStone 2) from SourceForge but got the dreaded error message. FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it! I've already contacted my space provider about this and they wont enable it for security reasons. :(
♥toyicebear Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Is there a File Compare program your recommend that works well? Use google look for winmerge or beyond compare FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it! can be delt with in many ways.. 1. ask your hosting to enable it. 2. use a .htaccess command to overide and set register globals enabled only for your domain. 3. upload a php.ini file to the root of your domain with register globals enabled set inside it , this is also to overide the servers settings and enable register globals for your domain only. 4. do the register globals fix from the contributions.... Or the best way..simply stick with RC1 And add contributions manually Tools needed... a ftp program a good php editor like phpdesigner, crimson editor or similar a good compare and merge program like windmerge, beyond compare or similar Basics for osC 2.2 Design - Basics for Design V2.3+ - Seo & Sef Url's - Meta Tags for Your osC Shop - Steps to prevent Fraud... - MS3 and Team News... - SEO, Meta Tags, SEF Urls and osCommerce - Commercial Support Inquiries - OSC 2.3+ How To To see what more i can do for you check out my profile [click here]
DejaVu Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 Superb post... 1 & 2. Tried to no avail. 3. Didnt work either :( 4. Not good with contributions! LOL I'll revert back to RC1 and try to be more vigilante I guess.
DejaVu Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 Right. I've found a pre-installed contribution rich OSCommerce M2.2 online and it seems pretty dam good! I HAVE managed to remove the register_globals thingy and things are happening! Yay. Unfortunately, I'm getting these errors on the install page.
