Until the next project version is released, documentation is provided separately and is generated automatically on a daily basis from the content of the Knowledge Base site. The Knowledge Base site is made for the current development version of the project and may contain sections that no longer apply to the current milestone release that is available for download.

And why can't I get my store to display a download selection box that works, and will give my customers a choice? And why do people always reply in jargon that makes no sense to the technologically impaired? I had a bookstore that DID work, it crashed. I have not only been unable to fix it, but am trying to set up a new store and can't get anything to work correctly except the display on the store entrance page. This is so frustrating, there is no help and so I am losing customers because I can't understand how to get this to work. Is there anyone out there who can help me with this?

Unless you describe whats happening no one here will be able to answer that question. I have spoken to many people here some of whom I admire greatly for thier technical expertise, however I have yet to meet one that is psychic. Post the symptoms, get a response!

If your talking about the post above I pasted that because it is on the page you downloaded the documentation from, you clearly didnt read it.

If this is beyond your capabilities either be prepared to take your time and learn it with the help of people here, or, make a business decision and if it needs to be done quickly, pay a developer to fix it.

No help? you must be joking right? this is one of the best supported applications on the go at the moment, this forum is full of very clever people, you need to ask your questions and wait for replies, or better still, use the search feature because every question you are going to ask, has already been answered.

OK, let me try...

I can't get any download function to work. Nothing. There are instructions that say the settings for a virtual product are in the product attributes, but I have been working at this for three days, and can't find anything. I even stepped back, let for a few hours, and came back and am still frustrated with my total ineptitude.

I go into products/attributes, and I get a dropdown that says Name ID or Option ID. ????

Then there are two sets of things to configure, how do I chose what to configure?

I can upload the books, configure the four formats, but when I get to the part in the catalog where you "buy" the books, I am apparently doing something wrong. I either get four separate dropdown boxes that are inert, or...none at all.

and beside EACH is a box that does not do anything.

Before, the store had one dropdown box that allowed the customer to select which format they desired, and allowed the choice to show in the shopping cart. I don't know how to get that result on this new store.

 

and for your information, this is the FIRST TIME I have ever been to one of these forums where I have gotten any answer at all...so thanks even if just for the answer.

Sorry to hear you lost your first site. I wonder what the reason was.

 

It sounds as if you have tried to a fresh installation of osCommerce and then add a download contribution which is not working correctly.

 

In your admin panel check and see if you have Configuration / Downloads.

 

Is download enabled.

 

If it is on the admin panel Catalog/ Product attributes at the bottom of the page is a box where you can associate a download file name with a product.

 

It might be a good idea to clear down all the products and attributes. Then set up one and get it to work and take it from there.

 

Take your time and check the installation of the contibution is correct in every detail, computer systems are particularly unforgiving. Miss one bracket and the whole thing can come tumbling down.

I have tried to figure out how to set these so I get a dropdown on the catalog for the customers to chose a reading format, but nothing has worked. I get a list of formats, and no way to select one.

These are ok, I know how to fill the filename in...Downloadable products: bookname Filename: exact file name Expiry days: 7 Maximum download count: 5 but I don't know what to do about the Option Value, Value Price or prefix..I didn't use them before, in the old store.

 

Before, I had only an option name in a dropdown, and when I fixed the attributes I inserted a file for each format and they showed up as the ID, Book Name, Format. Value Price and prefix were not used and were always blank.

 

I really appreciate any help you can give me.
