All,

I would like to preface this request for help by saying that we are an oscommerce newbie. We are notification of orders thru paypal but our oscommerce configuration as it stands prevents from knowing exactly what is being ordered. Not good. Can anyone suggest any troubleshooting tips. Hope to get some help soon as the holiday season is upon us.

Hi Mark,

The reason for this is that when a customer orders thru your site, the info is passed to PayPal for payment, the customer leaves your site taking all the info with them, when they pay successfully they get the confirmation from PayPal, and leave.

They do not return to your store so the info that they took with them does not return, so as far as the database is concerned the order has not been fulfilled so the info is dropped!

There are a few ways around this, PayPal IPN is your best route, it creates a holding box if you like where unfulfilled order are stored for you to either delete if false or update if paid for.

Another is to upgrade your paypal.php with the contribution PayPal, this is a one for one swap that will enable your order details to be added to the order receipt you will get. Otherwise all that will be where the order should be is your site name!

On PayPal itself you need to change some settings, under profile there is web option, you need to set this to return to site once successful,

Domain name will be your domain name + store if in a folder checkout_sucess.php

Now you will receive not only your customers order details but the database will also reflect the purchase!

I hope this is what you are after :-)

Fimble,

I couldn't ask for more. I will attempt to follow your advice above. I wish I had a manual log of some of the other oddities I noted. I believe there were instance when I was testing orders (for my mother-in-law, it's here site), I would get a confirmation email from oscommerce as well as the order but when others were purchasing neither email was received. I assume this has to do with what you've clearly outlined above. Thx again.

I just searched and, of course, came up with many paypal Contribs. Can you tell me which one you mean? I'd like to look at this.

Fimble,

Just reread your post and wanted to add that we aren't even getting the order receipt (even a blank one) as we have in times past. Just an additional observation.
