jhande Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread, I figured why start another one? Ok, there is TON's of information regarding SEO, SEF, META tags, sitemaps, etc... So much so that I have gotten lost and need some simple guidance. I am on a shared host and using a shared SSL. I have a hundred plus items listed already, but many, many more to go. I don't mind entering info for each item individually if it gives me control and better results. With that said... At first I was considering Ultimate SEO 2-2.2e, then thought maybe this would server me better - SEO-G v1.20? So I need one of the above and these below? Header Tags Controller v2.6.3 Complete Seach Engine Friendly URL Updated spiders.txt Google Sitemap Generator for MS2 Am I missing anything? Are the above choices good for my application? Any particular order of installation or just install the contribs and start updating my site? Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated! ;) - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
Jack_mcs Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Search Engine Friendly URL serves the same purpose as Ultimate SEO and SEO-G. I would add All Products with Images and Dynamic Sitemap to the list. jhande Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Thank you for the reply Jack. I did some more searching and reading. It seems that using a shared SSL really limits my choices. I found that Seach Engine Friendly URL won't work with shared SSL - discussion thread. Ultimate SEO 2-2.2e - issues and no support, Bobby/Chemo has been banned - thread. So that pretty much leaves SEO-G with it's active support thread. So here is the new list of search engine optimization contributions I "think" I need or should use: SEO-G Header Tags Controller v2.6.3 Complete Updated spiders.txt All Products v3.0 MS 2.2 with Images Plus... Doesn't Google Sitemap Generator for MS2 do the same as Dynamic SiteMap V 1.0? Any comments or ideas? - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
Jack_mcs Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I regularly install Ultimate SEO. It works fine. The trick, with most contributions nowadays, is finding the correct one to use. I upload the version e one to fix an ongoiing problem but, from the posts I've seen, it has some problems on some sites. If that doesn't work for you, then the d version works find. SEO-G has its own set of problems that prevent me from using it. You may find differently. The google sitemap and dynamic sitemap provide similar pages but are not the same. The latter is for the site so your customers can use it as well. jhande Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Thank you so much Jack. Your help has truely cleared the smoke from my brain (confusion LOL) and pointed me in the right direction. Ultimate SEO and both google & dynamic sitemap it is. Much appreciated! ;) - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
Guest Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 im seriously confused so what are best to use i have Meta tags all ready.. SEO links work on my site (the built in ones) and i dont use SSL and have 150 products and more coming with about 800 + visitors a day this week? any help would be good also any links Laurence
jhande Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Hey Laurence, First off I'd suggest at least using a shared SSL which is usually provided free from your hosting service. After all the information transfered on - http://socomtactical.net/create_account.php should be protected. The best to use would be where you can control what information is added, not the automatically filled in ones. As far as what you should use, only advice I can give you is to read the above post and follow the links I have provided in those posts. ;) - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -

jhande Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I have a dedi server so wont be a problem SSL wise ive been looking into it Been thinking to install the below Seach Engine Friendly URL Google Sitemap Generator for MS2 Will this work all ok before i install SSL? and will it work after as well? and are these the best ones to go for? Thanks Laurence Hi Laurence, With you having a dedicated server and a private SSL certificate that leaves you open to a few more options than me. But from what I have gathered so far, the best setup would be something like this: Seach Engine Friendly URL or Ultimate SEO 2-2.2e plus, Google Sitemap Generator for MS2 and Dynamic SiteMap V 1.0 plus, Header Tags Controller v2.6.3 Complete plus, Updated spiders.txt plus, All Products v3.0 MS 2.2 with Images I think there wouldn't be any problems installing them before activating your SSL certificate. BUT, I'm no expert on that subject. As far as I can tell they are the best ones to go for. Using them all instead of just the two you list gives you a bit of an edge so to speak. ;) - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
