implementing sts 4.5

Could somebody help me with some basics so i can start experimenting with sts??

 

I can get by with the one template for the whole page.

 

What would be the steps in general terms to have a $content page template??

 

How do i tell the system in admin?

 

I have tried the info_page_1_12.php but all i get is the default template.

 

What am i doing wrong?
