dogtails Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Hi, I would like feedback please. To me it still looks kind of "oscommerce". I have searched forum after forum, contribution after contribution and lots of CAFFIENE. Things I think it needs and need directions to go is: Better category menu system Better navigation bar Lint the home (in the navigation) to my startlogic home page which yousee when you click my link Add paypal logos Add a background around the page (still searching this) Everything I've done so far, I have found on my own, so its time for feedback. I'm sure I'm overlooking some basics somewhere. It is much appreciated and please be blunt but I would appreciate it if you are respectful. Click here!

Andrew Yuen Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Several things I noticed. Your header seems pixelated and oversized. I would consider adding a logo and reducing the size of your header. Your search field seems way to big. Also consider removing the space where you commented out the right column. Finally, I would remove the (->) in the categories infobox. Other then that I like your simple color scheme. Andrew Yuen osCommerce, Community Team

Seach field? I'll look in the .php pages where I commented out the right column, to see what youare talking about how do i remove the arrow?

Is there a place to go to create one that would look better? I just made is big enough to fit the box. What does pixelated mean?

Still looking to remove the arrow on the category menu

Still looking to remove the arrow on the category menu OK fixed the space where the column_right was. That was a great suggestion. Any more suggestions from ANYBODY? Its ok, I can take it if there is.

However another point is that the front might be more flashy in the future. Perhaps you can have a lovely intro then into catalogue page. lastly some of the logos are large and dominate the page. However other than picky things i really dont think it looks os commercy at all it looks great and works great!!! good luck!
Andrew Yuen Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 From wikipedia "In computer graphics, pixelation is an effect caused by displaying a bitmap or a section of a bitmap at such a large size that individual pixels, small single-colored square display elements that comprise the bitmap, are visible to the eye, a picture that this has happened to has been pixelated." Your header is still pixelated (ie the black and white picture of the dog is not clear) especially around the text imbedded within the header. When I meant shrink the header I meant shrink vertically not horizontally. It would look better if your header is shrunk vertically. It looks like you did the opposite and shrunk the header horizontally. The header is taking up way to much vertical space on your store in my opinion. Andrew Yuen osCommerce, Community Team

I will work on the picture some more. I can't go too verticle or the dog will not have a face. Any suggestions? I did shrink it vertically as well. I made the whole thing smaller. I'll see how much better I can make it. I'm using a regular picture in photoshop. I don't know what else to do with it. Do you know photoshop?

♥Vger Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Your whole site is under shared ssl, and is two levels above the root (/osCommerce/catalog/), with a splash page in the root. You need to: 1. Move the site into the root (better for Search Engines to find) 2. Dump the splash page in the root (why make someone make an extra click before getting to your site) 3. Set it up correctly to use http and https as osCommerce decides (only those pages which should be https are made https) - Search Engines don't give page rankings to https pages. Vger

Thanks. Now how do I do all that. I totally agree with you on the clicking, except I use start logic and didn't know how not to have that.

I was able to take the https off, but startlogic said no to the home page, i sit on the phone for almost and hour and wasn't going to argue at that point.
digilee Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 by startlogic, you mean the hosting company? If so, they are telling you what you should have on your site? I'd move hosts if I were you. SolarFrenzy Solar powered gadgets at down to earth prices. CheekyNaughty Promoting British Design
♥Vger Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 but startlogic said no to the home page, i sit on the phone for almost and hour and wasn't going to argue at that point. Did they say "No" to the site being in the root of the domain? Or did they say "No" to moving it for you? If they said "No" to the site being in the root then find a new hosting company. It's your website, not theirs. Vger

Vger they said no to it being the root, I DO NOT like startlogic at all, very poor customer service and not too helpful. I've already paid the contract though and will need to stay there for a bit. I got the site going faster anyways. It was something about their name being there or something. blah blah, I was mad for sitting on the phone for an hour waiting. Anyways, this probably isn't the place to vent all that. If I could do it myself, I would. I will move my domain someday in the future though for sure. I am not all that familiar with doing all that and don't really want to interrupt the business too much. My meta tags are on the root page.
gub Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I think your site looks great. If you can't move it up to the root to get rid of the /oscommerce/ in www.yoursite.com/oscommerce/etc., can you rename the directory so 'oscommerce' doesn't show in the URL? Otherwise, I think your on your way.
mbc Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 how about your email function? can you email to clients via oscommerce website you setup?
