It depends, what kind of payments are you accepting?

Credit card, check and paypal.

in your shops admin, modules >> payment

1. dont use the default credit card module, its just for testing and does nothing.....

2. for Paypal just enable and insert your paypal email address in the paypal module... then payment done via paypal will be deposited into your paypal account.

3. for checks or money order, input the required info on wher e you want the money sent in the most sutible payment module.

If you are going to process Credit Card orders manually through a terminal then the above statment is not entirely true. I use the default CC module with the addition of CVV numbers & number enrcryption to process 95% of our orders. With the aforementioned additions this module will send you all of the needed info to process each order.

This is against PCI regulations and puts you in position of large fines and lawsuits aswell as risk loosing your merchant account.

How so? All CC numbers are enrcrypted and viewable in their true form only by me. Plus as soon as they are proccesed we delete them from the Database.

1. You are not allowed to collect and store CVV at all....

2. Unless you are PCI compliant, you are not allowed to collect and store cc info. (This goes even if it is "encrypted")

For nr. 1 well that one has no exceptions and can get you in serious trouble straight of the bat.

For nr. 2 , if you have a security breach of some sort you will be instantly fined and loose your merchant account.

Even if you do not get "hacked" but get found out, at best you will a stern warning and asked to get PCI compliant or you can actually get fined directly in such a case too and also loose your merchant account.

Stupid question: What is PCI compliant? Does that mean a commercial security certificate? (SSL)

Read this:

And also check your merchant account small print. It will say in there that you are not allowed to store credit card numbers anywhere - for any length of time.

It's the credit card company that is telling me they need a commercial sercurity certificate. Just following their instructions.

They are the ones that have to approve the security, the set up etc. before they will allow it to go "live".
