piperis Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Hi, I am a bit lost atm. I am looking at the best way to make potential customers on my site feel safe, and i dont just mean using ssl. I have heard of buysafe but that needs a min of $1000 worth of sales a month, but my site isnt even complete yet so its no good for me atm. What other options are threre out there? Any help would be apreciated! THanks
FIMBLE Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Hi whatever checkout merchant you use they should supply the security when your order crosses to them for payment details, your part will be in protecting the customers personal information, address and the like, which SSL is fine for. They can see by the padlock icon that you are using it. Nic Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post [/url] My Contributions
piperis Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 thnx for reply. I know that much. I mean more in the sense that customers are able to trust me/the shop with some third party verifying all of my information. I know for example paypal you can get verified status but i want something stronger like buysafe.... any ideas?

It sounds like you're asking for some "seal of approval" to let potential customers know that you're trustworthy? If you're a member of any reputable business or professional organizations, try to get permission to put their seal on the page(s). A member of the Better Business Bureau? A professional organization? An economic development group? Are you licensed in any specialty (realtor, professional engineer, doctor, etc.) with an association? Do you do regular business on eBay or the like, and can boast about your favorable ratings? Do you have a PayPal verified account (and take PayPal for payments)? If there's a dispute, will you handle it with arbitration rather than going to court? If you're not yet big enough for BuySafe, offhand I don't know of any other well-known organizations who will vouch for the accuracy of your listings and your honesty in dealing with customers. Like many other things in the business world, you have to establish a track record. Consider enabling the product feedback part of osC, and maybe a separate customer forum to gather positive feedback (that you're expecting). If someone posts a very negative feedback, it's OK to append your explanation of what happened, but don't delete their feedback unless it's clearly malicious and inaccurate. To avoid misunderstandings, put all your policies and procedures in writing on the site so potential customers can see in advance what their protections and avenues of recourse are.
