Flat Rate Shipping Per Item - Simple Solution?

I am interested in finding a simple solution for adding flat rate shipping to specific items. I have tried MVS and it did not work like I expected.

 

Here are some issues we have:

 

One vendor has multiple items that are different sizes and wieghts. The vendor charges a flat rate to ship some items, such as the heavier furniture. All other items are shipped UPS ground from this vendor. We actually UPS as the only shipping option.

 

Ideally I would like to have a section added to the admin/categories/products. This section would have a field under the wieght where I can add a dollar amount for flat shipping, for that one item. For the wieght feild there could be a check box next to it that would enable/disable the UPS wieght calculation and just revert to the flat rate specified when disabled.

 

In theory this doesn't seem that difficult. Basically disable the wieght shipping calculation feature and go with a flat rate that I typed in for the product.

 

Anyone know of a way to do this or of a module that is out there?
