Google adsense

If you mean about having adsense on your site for pay per clicks, then i would not bother so much

If you think about the waqy it works, it actually takes potential customers from your site to potentially a competitors site, so you may get the pay per click, but you also loose a customer!

Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post

A few months ago I paused my Adsense campain to see if there was any differance. What I noticed was a 8 % drop in hits but at the same time I also had a 12 % drop in sales to the past months numbers.

In my case the drop in sales was actually cost less than the amount I was paying for Adsense by about $100.00 so for me anyways Adsense didn't make that big of a differance.

Also note I offer a very niche product group thats also dependent on seasional up's and downs.

Installed Contributions: CCGV, Close Popup, Dynamic Meta Tags, Easy Populate, Froogle Data Feeder, Google Position, Infobox Header Entire Row, Live Support for OSC, PayPal Seal with CC images, Report_m Sales, Shop by Price Revised, SQL Updater, Who's Online Enhancement, Footer, GNA EP Assistant and still going.

bobg7 - You're confusing AdSense with AdWords.

On one of my sites I used AdWords until I realized my site was within the first 5 search results on Google. During the time I did use it, I never saw an increase in sales; and when I removed it, I didn't see any decrease - probably because my site was in the top five search results anyway.

I still use AdSense on my sites. My example is that I keep my prices lower than my competitors - people click on the ads to visit them but quickly find my prices are the lowest, and they come back. So I get the PPC and the sale. If I find a competitors ad that has a lower price than mine, I lower my prices or I block the ad from showing on my site (Google lets you block up to ~250 sites and/or individual pages in AdSense). I have only one site where I have greedy, high-priced competitors so this tactic won't work for all instances, but it's something to think about.

There is plenty of material out on the web that talks about how this is done. I suggest you check out Joel Comm's set of videos on youtube and at his website: http://www.askjoelcomm.com/adsense_secrets_liveindex.shtml

This website has alot of informative videos as to how to optimize your website for Adsense. And the videos are FREE!!!! Not something you have to buy online.
