Adding Quantity Box to product info

First of all my apologies, I know this has been asked quite a few times. I have searched the forums but the solutions are either out-dated or not working. Even the addons and docu are not matching with the current code. Can anyone provide a simple solution to add quantity box to product_info.php. I am already done with the part in the product_info page. the only thing that is left is to make changes to application_top.php

In appication_top.php to add a box put this at the bottom of a page:define('FILENAME_ABOUT', 'about.php');change the about to whatever you will call your box.You add a box to left or right in/boxes

That code just doesn't work for me. I get the error message:
