bkellum
Whenever I make a modification to my catalog page such as removing boxed or adding logos the change takes but I get " " on my catalog page. Please help I am new at this. This is usually the result of an editor that has the encoding set incorrectly and therefor can not understand the coding for that page (most likely the case). It can also be caused by the users browser not being setup correctly to view the desired coding. As a quick fix, open the offending file in your admin filemanger ... it will show the weird letters right at the beginning of the file. Delete them, save, and all is well. Do a search on Google for "charset encoding". bkellum
Using Microsoft Expression There's the problem. If you are editing the PHP files, you could open them in MS Expression by using the "Open With" command and then selecting a good PHP editor such as PHP Designer 2007 (or any text editor such as NotePad). You should avoid opening any of the PHP files in Expression since it does not recognize PHP and will insert the weird characters at the beginning of your files. pmp128
Thanks, I will look up the PHP Designer 2007. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the garbage I accidently put on the catalog using expression?

Yes, you can either open the pages that you had previously edited in Expression using the file manager that comes with your web host account or in NotePad and just delete the odd characters at the beginning of each file. You can also open them within your stores Admin - Tools - File Manager. pmp128
I tried the file manager, under tools & it let me see the file (the characters clearly visible) but won't let me edit it, says no permission? Very frustrating but making progress.

JosephB
I, too, am having this problem. I use Expression Web 2 to edit my html pages but not my php pages. Still the shows up at the beginning of my pages. I did a search for that character string but it did not appear in any file in my web site. I have no idea where the characters are coming from. I'm WAY beyond stumped on this one. I have no idea where to begin looking since the characters do not appear in ANY file on my web site (they are obviously being generated somehow). Any ideas, anyone? Steep learning curve? Hell, I don't even know enough to formulate a stupid question!!
NodsDorf
Hi Joseph Normal Oscommerce does not come with any html files so I'm not sure what you were referring to there. That said, try using NotePad, or download for free EditPad Lite, or PSPad. Review the file in there and you should find the the expression line returns there, so you can remove them. Hope it helps
