PHP Point of Sale

My store just implemented this contribution and a couple of questions have come up.

The search function when searching through the stores items works much like the quick search on our regular site, we need it to search the full description field and not just the title of the product. The reason why is because we are a book company, and we are going to have to add sku's to be searched with our barcode scanner to all of our books. We don't want the sku's cluttering up our homepage. I have a feeling this problem isn't too tough, I just don't know what to alter to get the search to look at the bigger field.

Also, does anyone have a solution for when taking cash, having the system calculate change for the customer like a typical register. We are toying with the idea of just leaving the calculator that comes with windows on all the time but that can be kind of cumbersome and we would like it a little more streamlined. If no one has figured this part out I may just have to try to add something like this myself although I have no idea where I would start.

There used to be a dedicated forum for this product, at the developer's site, but unfortunately, that forum now says:

Project is currently not active, forums are no longer available.

Hopefully there are some folks on this forum who are familiar with it.

I noticed that as well jared. Something else I picked up on is their are actually 2 different versions of PHP PoS. One that integrates with oscommerce, and another standalone version that does not. Both of them are free but the standalone version does everything I would like it to do, and the oscommerce version is currently considered a beta and does not have the things I listed above.

My question now is would it be a better option to go with the standalone version and have it update the inventory at the end of the day, and how would I get it to do that? Is it even possible? For those interested in the app it is available at http://www.phppointofsale.com. It looks to be a killer app but it absolutely must share the same inventory as our website http://www.gsubooks.com. We have a brick and mortar bookstore that uses a traditional register right now and we desperately want to join you guys in the 21st century.
