unisonproductions
Hi there, I need a shopping cart added to a site that is currently in development. The site will only be a ‘static’ site at first with no content management due to budget restrictions. I believe that it is possible to add a shopping cart to such a static site (?) The basic site concept: It is a print-on-demand service where the user will be able to browse through a gallery of designs, photos and images (or upload their own.) This image or images will then be added to cart and at checkout, the user will choose from a range of sizes (or select a custom size) to print and several options of mediums to print onto etc. So I theory all I need is a shopping cart that is configurable with several options for the end user in order to determine a price to charge based on the options selected. I have posted the required specs on a Freelance website for freelancers to quote how much it will cost (to configure such an osCommerce based shopping cart and to integrate it with a payment gateway service) So far the quotes are extortionate…….and I feel that it shouldn’t be that difficult since osCommerce is open source with a wealth of ready made templates which should theoretically be easy for an expert to customize it to my specs for a much lower price! Can someone with experience in this please advise more or less how much a freelancer should charge for configuring a shopping cart for me with the above specs (I can also post more detailed specs and variables on the price calculation if need be) Help much appreciated! Thanks a bunch! Anton

Coopco, thanks Extortionate = $2000 Reasonable price = $100-$200 Unfortunately I'm not confident in doing it myself.....(or getting there to 99.9 and then to get stuck on a bit of code or something) If anyone knows of a good commercial package that could do what I'm after (at said reasonable price), please let me know. But it seems that osCommerce has a very strong following, so I'd rather opt for that.... Thanks Again

Well, if I paid $20 per hour to develop my site, the price would far exceed $2000. OSC is a great program, and it is very flexible. The forums are to help people when they get stuck on OSC matters (particularly when they make a real effort to do it and then look for answers before posting questions that get asked every second day). You will just need to invest some time to get what you want. Before I install and addon, I ask myself: do I need it? is it upto date? is there an active support thread for it? If I answer no to any of the above, I usually do not install it. The first thing to do after you download the package from this site is to make sure that you have a dedicated ftp program (eg filezilla), and a pure text editor for editing files. Give it a go, you have nothing to lose.
unisonproductions
Coopco - I'd rather pay someone that has experience in this.......... thanks for the confidence vote, but I know nothing about this stuff... Anyone else have any thoughts? So if we go the 'hourly consultung route' - what is the reasonable amount of hours to be spent on building / changing an OSC template for my purposes? Thanks again Anton
