I am looking for ANY help.

I purchased the oscommerce from Dotcombuilder.com I thought this shopping cart stuff would be simple.

I have NO web development knowledge so I am in DESPRATE need of help.

I installed the os commerce successfully (I think)

But when I go to the site...I get these error messages at the top:

Warning: Installation directory exists at: /kunden/homepages/2/d217795417/htdocs/.erotic/install. Please remove this directory for security reasons.

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /kunden/homepages/2/d217795417/htdocs/.erotic/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.

HOw do I do ANY of this???

How do I REMOVE the files they are talking about? Is it in my HOSTING account files? Or is it in this program in the admin section?

Whereever it is...could someone please tell me how to get to it?

Also could someone PLEASE tell me how to setup an admin passoword for this system? I am so lost I am in tears. I have been working on this for DAYS and I have not gotten any further than right here.

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH IN ADVANCE.

You'll have to use your site's Control Panel (provided by your Web host - not a function of osCommerce).

You'll probebaly need to find the "File Manager" inside the Control Panel.

Many of them work like this when it comes to changing file permissions:

Usually, you navigate to the folder where the file you want to change permissions on is located.

Click on the file you want to change permissions on.

A 3 x 3 matrix of checkmarks will appear.

Vertically you'll see something like:

User

Group

Other

Horizontally you'll see:

Read

Write

Exec (or Execute)

For "User", check the "Read" and "Write" boxes ONLY!

For "Group" and "Other", check the "Read" box ONLY!

If there are checkmarks in other boxes, clear them.

Then click the "Change" or "Apply" button.

If you still get the message on the site remove the check in the Write box for User. This makes the file "read only" for everyone.

This is an example only.

Your Control Panel may look and function in a slightly different manner.

Then use the Control Panel "File Manger" to delete this folder:

/htdocs/.erotic/install <-- the install folder only!!!

Another function of your Control Panel will probably called "Protect".

Use it to protect your /admin folder. It will ask you to create a "Username" and "Password" when you "protect" it.

Two things to keep in mind:

1. They ARE case sensitive.

2. REMEMBER THEM!!!

Not all Control Panels look and function in the same manner, so I can't give the specific clicks to get you there.

All this can also be done via FTP (usually) if you have FTP access.

If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.

In cpanel and vdec you have Settings. There you should find password protect.Pick dir for that task and put your password there. The username will be your loging name(to vdec). It would be good if you download FileZilla. It is free ftp program and will allow you connect to your host and do neccessery changes.

The rrors are not critical to operation - it is a security issue. You should rename the install dir or delete(better rename) and set the permition ot 644 for configure.php and /admin/includes/configure.php.The main thing what make me puzzle is -why did you pay for OSC?It is free.
