was in test mode for payment-lost money

I was in test mode for a month while a live store was running and I didn't even notice it! So all the products that have been bought were never charged for. So I use Authorize.net's payment module-and they said they didn't get any orders. Is there anyway I can charge the customers again? I'm guessing they were never charged the first time. Or if they were where did that money go? Is there anything else I can do?

is there a way i can get their credit card info so i could manually charge them.

i'm guessing not as that info goes right to authorize.net

don't you think there would be a failsafe though? why do the orders still go through --shouldn't they say TEST or something?

I would contact the customers and just explain that their order did not go through and they need to place it again.

yea, all have already gotten their orders. osCommerce should have a TEST subject or say test somewhere when the invoices come in. anyway, thanks

I'm confussed...

You had an online test store plus a live store running. Or the live store was being tested/worked on?

How can the customers already have their orders?

Isn't payment received verified "before" shipping?

I mean, I certainly wouldn't ship out goods just because I received an order email from osC. I'd make sure that the payment transaction was complete first.

I think a weak link of osC is that as a shop, it does not store customers credit account numbers along with their other information in the database. I mean, what's the sense in going through the expense and trouble of setting up an SSL if we are only transferring name, address, phone number, email address, etc... There are other online shops that alow you to store such info for future use.

And yes I agree, there should or must be some way to turn off osC from allowing transactions while it under goes construction.

We had that right on the live site, I do agree that the orders shouldn't have been shipped before the funds were verified. Which is why this went on for so long, I just figured that the person who owns the store was tracking that.

so we're going to call the customers back today--it will be interesting to see how many actually cooperate to go through with the charge.

You mean that OSC should break the law. Why would you want to store the numbers and be be legally liable for the misuse of that information?

SSL on your store lets your customers know that their personal details are given to you securely.

The last time I read the contract with the credit card companies you were also not allowed to charge the card till item was shipped. Card can be verified but not charged.

That can't be true as the credit card charges when credit card payments is in product mode, charges right away.
