Guest
I know this subject has been burned to death but I read one post suggesting anyone getting this to work please post the way we done it. I have attempted to glean everything I could from the folks who know, put it altogether and see what does and does not work. I hope I can convey enough information that many of you wanting this function can do it without spending two weeks as I have trying a multitude of things that did not work. I am going to assume that everyone knows how to upload your product. That said, I am on a Mac. That shouldn't make any difference at all so don't worry about it. I am going to use the scenario that you are wanting to make it possible for customers to visit your site and DOWNLOAD Photos. Under the Admin>Configuration>Download section------Enable download as "True" Download by redirect "False" Expiry delay in (days) to how long you want the customer to be able to download the file. (I am setting to "2") Maximum number of downloads ( I am setting mine to "1") After you have added the product go to "Product Attributes" section under "Catalog" heading in Admin. PRODUCT OPTIONS: In the blank box type a name. It has been suggested that you use something other than Download but that is what I used----"insert". OPTION VALUES: In the Drop-Down select "Download" in the box called "en." type" Adobe Acrobat". --"insert". PRODUCT ATTRIBUTES: In the "Drop Down" menu you should see whatever product name/names you have uploaded. Select one. In the next "Drop Down" select Download. Next "Drop Down" select "yes". Next box is "Attribute Sort" type "0". Then "Value Price" leave blank. "Prefix" Leave blank. Back to left side of page where it says in the color red, "Downloadable products": Filename: The "Choose File" is so you can browse your computer for the photo file, in my instance. I doubt that it is necessary to place the Expiry days or max download count in the following boxes, they have already been established. The products to be downloaded after purchase are put in the catalog/download folder. The catalog/download folder will be read from the "pub" folder. Make sure the /catalog/pub folder permissions (CHMOD) are set to 777 and /catalog/download folder is 755. When the customer goes through the "check out" section and makes payment there is a "DOWNLOAD" button for them to click on for their item to download. It will be present in the "Preview" window on a Mac I am not sure where it will be on a windows machine. That option can be set as a Default action. The customer will need to open the photo in PhotoShop or some other photo software to do as they wish. Sorry if this is confusing. I hoped to make it simple enough that I could understand it later.LOL ferg
Guest
The only thing is not require the pub folder. All my zipped files are in download folder.I have configure my vdec(cpanel) the way that if any dir do not have index file it will not be accessible.Since download dir have only a zip files- it is protected. No outside entry allowed. It works for me. Guest
Hi Ferg! Thank you so much for this post! I am a complete newbee and tried the past weekend to get my download sorted...didn't know how to use the Attributes part. One thing I have noticed from another post, which helped me in the final phase, is that some osCommerce systems store the files in a different location...so the order confirmation appears, but no download link! Here's what you do: Create a new folder on the same level of the "catalog" folder. The folder name must be "catalogdownload". Save all the download files in the "catalogdownload" folder in stead of the "download" folder inside "catalog". This sorted out the final problem for me and I can now download the ordered file. (The way you should see if you have this specific issue is as follows: When you open the default page of the shop, it will notify you in the top of the window of any problems...it says something like "the folder catalogdownload does not exist") PS, I do not have the "Attribute Sort" function in my attributes page, and the dropdown where you should select "yes" is also not there. My layout also seems different to some tutorials I've seen...Is this because I have an older version? None of these differences caused an issue, but does anyone know how I can check my osCommerce version? I'd like to get everything up and running, but don't wanna spend too much time if an upgrade is gonna cost me all my hours of work. Thanks once again, Ferg, you're a star!! Guest
Oh, obviously the permissions of the folder "catalogdownload" needs to be the same as you described for "catalog/download" And I copied the ".htaccess" file to the new location in the hope that it will cover me security wise...hope that was the right thing
