Hi Jason,

Review THIS

If you face problems, post your exact query :)

Cheers

GS

I have already reviewed the above link. I thought that I setup a tax rate for just California but my test account with a Connecticut address is also being charged the sales tax. Any ideas why ? I setup a California tax zone, the correct tax rate for CA, and a tax class that has been attached to all the goods in the edit product window.

You need to define the zone in which your store is located and each product must have a tax class defined. If this second part is not done, tax will be charged regardless of buyer location

I am having the exact same problem. Did you ever figure out how to make it work?

I have california defined as my zone in MyStore. I have a tax class and a tax zone setup. I have tried bith "CA" and "California". Everyone gets charged.

This is a basic element that must work or OSC is uless. Also, the documentation does not match the software (I know, old issue) but it should not be referenced .

Hey there - I was having the same problem but finally figured it out. The documentation is a bit dense -- but what you are missing is the step of connecting a state "zone" to the "tax zone" you created. So on your Tax Zones page, you probably set up "California" as a tax zone. Now, with that selected, hit the insert button and you will then have the ability to assign a country (US) and zone (CA) to the "tax zone" of California. Once you do that step, the tax application will work like you think it should in checkout. But wow it took me a while of playing with it to figure that out. Hope that helps you.

Thanks for the help. That probably would work but frankly I ditched OSC and am using zen cart now. Somehow the tax thing worked right away plus other things worked out easier.

I'm having the same problem as the previous person (no sales tax being charged to anyone.) Following the above suggestion, I went into Tax Zones, highlighted Texas (the only one I've created), but hitting the insert button only allows me to create a new tax zone; it doesn't allow me to assign countries or anything like that.

What am I missing? Thanks!

After going crazy with the same problem I finaly found this post that explained the process in detail. http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...rate+class+zone

"From the front screen, under Locations / Taxes, click on Tax Zones.

Click Insert.

Under Zone Name, write "New York."

Under Description, write "New York Local Sales Tax Zone."

Click on Details.

Click on Insert.

Under Country, select United States.

Under Zone, select New York.

Now go to Tax Rates.

Click on New Tax Rate.

Under Tax Class Title, select Taxable Goods.

Under Zone, select New York.

Under Tax Rate (%), enter your local sales tax.

You can write whatever you want under description.

This should work for you."

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info! My site goes all over the country for sales, so do I need to add every state that has a sales tax?

Our store is in Oregon where we do not have a sales tax, but if someone buys something who is from WA, or VT or TX do I need to put them all in? HELP I'M SOOOOO CONFUSED!!

Sales Tax collection is a legal issue. If you are not required to collect sales tax, then don't worry about it. You don't need to set anything up.

Some states have reciprocal agreements with surrounding states. In a case like this, you would need to set up your state and those states as well, plus each of the individual states might have different tax rates. But, again, this is more of a location by location legal issue.

ok, this is bordering on ridiculous...i have read all the available documentation and have followed every last one of the recoomended steps to the T and still I cannot get the sales tax for my state to display..i have no idea what i might be doing wrong as i have followed all the suggestions step by step.....

is there anyone out there that can tell me what i am doing wrong ? has anyone else has a similar issue where they cant get it to work no matter what ? i wonder if zen cart is easier in that regard ?!?
