Easy Populate - Simple Instructions

oceanlink

Recommended Posts

I have read so many threads about this application and I must be one of thousands who are put off oscommerce because it is so difficult to configure to allow the import and export data in the DB.

I have a question - is there any definite site or thread that explains it SIMPLY?

I cannot understand all these download threads - none are clearly explained and you just end up confused and demoralised.

Is there any kind soul out there who can explain simply how this can be configured - or if there are any other applications that are better suited ? I am sure there would be MANY users who would appreciate this advice - it might help to cut down on the duplicated traffic on this forum as well !

I am amazed that there seems little definitive support for this big issue with such a widely used and respected shopping cart product.

Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks

First, you should be using the latest version by surfalot. Just ignore the others. To install it, you need to:

- upload the included files

- create a temp directory in the root of your shop and set its permissions to the same as on the images directory

- make one file change as described in the instructions

Go to your admin->Catalog section and you should see it there. Click on it and then on Download a full catalog. It will create a spreadsheet for you. You can then make a change and re-uplload it to see if it works.

As with any code that can change your database, you should backup the database first. Also, with any contribution, you should ask your questions about that contribution in the support thread for it since that is where, generally, the author will see it.

I found the best way was to set up one part so it appeared on the site as I wanted all the products to appear.

This involved setting up the a manufacturer, attributes and categories. Also putting images for the product and category.

Then in the Export boxes in Easy populate change the custom option to complete and click build file.

Now comes the fun part you can get that file and bring it down onto your PC.

Now just duplicate the one line in that file using excel and edit each line so it is correct for each product.

Then save the file and open it in wordpad. Delete any extra lines at the bottom of the file these are generated by blank lines in excel and look like this

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Once you have saved it upload the file to the same place you got it from and you should just be able to click mport in to db nect to Import EP file from Temp Dir.

Enjoy
