oscommerce-2.2rc1 not the same as 2.2MS2?

I do believe a release canidate is like beta where a mile stone is a stable release.

So are we to use RC as it is as it is the only one listed at oscommerce.com under downloads?

I notice in the downloaded folder it has text files about how to update I assume those update instructions are for those that have versions prior to OSCommerce 2.2 rc1 as that version would have all the changes that the update talks about already installed.

Here is my question I have an OSCommerce template from TemplateMonster #9261 made in 2003 for original OSCommer 2.2MS2.

Now like I said I am still not sure it RC1 is to be use in a live site but if so do you apply all the patches listed in the RC1 update to the 9261 template where applicable or will a template that old even work where it was built to work with MS2 of OSCommerce?

Any help appreciated.

The template monster templates usually used an old osCommerce MS2.2 Build, so it usually a good idea to do the osCommerce 2.2 Milestone 2 060817 upgrade first...

Those files you can find at source forge.

osCommerce 2.2 RC1 is a stable version, the RC is more an indication that its not yet the Final 2.2 version.....

To upgrade to RC1 or not can be based on these factors...

1. Are you using many add-ons/contributions on your site today?

2. Do you plan to add many add-ons/contribution to your site?

3. Are you a totally blank or just a novice within php programing?

If your answer is YES to any of those 3 then you might want to hold of to upgrade to RC1. (Some of the functions in RC1 does render some of the contributions non-functional)

Where I am going to host has OSCommerce 2.2 MS 2 and the template was written for that. I assume but will find out if that to be the original OSC release.

I assume one gets to source forge as a url as sourceforge.net? or through oscommerce.com?

If I am keeping OSCommerce 2.2 MS 2 is 060817 just a bug fix to the 2003 release of OSCommerce? Still work with PHP 4 or 4 and 5?

As to question 2 yes I plan on adding contributions.

As to question 3 I am very good at PHP, HTML use BBEdit. hand code no Dreamweaver for me...

By the way where can you get the original OSCommerce 2.2 MS 2 release? Not the RC 1 release you find on OSCommerce.com under downloads.

RC1 is still a 2.2 version, its not that different from osCommerce 2.2 MS 2 is 060817 , its just that some of the functions in regards mainly to register globals on/off compabilety fixes in RC1 interfers with some of the add-ons/contributions.

Besides that there are some minor bux fixes and a new admin login in RC1.

Both releases should be compatible with PHP/Mysql 4 and PHP/Mysql 5.

While older releases will have some issues on PHP/Mysql 5

For downloading older versions (inc. osCommerce 2.2 MS 2 is 060817) go to: osCommerce at Source Forge
