How to add 'Valid From' Date for debit/credit cards

Broadsword

Recommended Posts

I have been searching the forums here all day and cannot find the answer!

I want to add a new field to the order processing page so that when customers input their card details they can also input the cards 'valid from' date as well as the expiry date. This is required for some UK debit cards.

I have tried to add text to the two cc.php files but it doesn't seem to work. Basically i have copied the same kind of text used for the card expiry date. I obviously haven't done something right so would be grateful if someone can advise me, provide a link to the info or paste the text i need to change/edit/add.

I'd rather not install a contribution and would rather add to the two cc.php files - but if a contribution is the better option then a recommendation would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Credit Cards don't use a valid from date - Debit Cards do. If you're collecting that data for later processing by hand, I would say don't - use a third party provider. Anyway, for Debit Cards, some require Valid From date, some require Issue#. As far as I can see osC doesn't have a Debit Card module, nor VF or issue# within the CC module, so I guess the only answer (if you insist on collecting the data) is to code it yourself, or hope that someone here can/will do it for you.

But, really, you're asking for trouble collecting and storing that data yourself - use a third party clearance service provider. There are plenty to choose from. You would need to shop around to find the most suitable one for you though, because they use different methods of charging. It's worth it though to avoid issues under the data protection act and jumping through the security hoops your bank would require you to do.
