Not charging sales tax on shipping:

Hi all,

My store (still in development) is charging sales tax for shipping. I have done two things to stop this:

1) In the order total module, tax is listed before shipping (sub-total, tax, shipping, total)

2) I have added a tax class in the proper state called "shipping" with the rate set to 0%, and I have made sure to select this shipping class under "table rate" in the Shipping module. I do have the table rate turned on and the other shipping methods turned off.

However, no matter these changes, it still keeps charging me sales tax on the shipping. What do I need to do to turn this off?

Thanks in advance.

Alan

change it in whichever shipping modules you are using, must have the shipping set to use your tax class in admin

just tried to get you to double check

if this is a stock osc shop it should not be doing this, I say do not set any tax class to shipping, it is not needed, you do not need a tax class set to zero to make it work right

Alright, I went back and removed the tax classes, and have set the shipping tax class to the default "none." Still I have the problem of being charged tax for shipping.

Any further ideas?

Hi,

I still haven't been able to stop the ordering process from taxing the shipping too. So far I have done everything that everyone has mentioned (or it was already done before asking the question). However, the problem isn't resolved. Can someone who is familiar with this problem please look back over the suggestions and note any possible fix that hasn't been mentioned yet?

I would be very appreciative.

Hi Everyone,

Here is an interesting bit of information that might help one of you to diagnose the problem:

So, my site still is charging sales tax on the shipping even though I have done everything necessary so that it shouldn't be.

However, I set up a simple test site with all the settings so that I wouldn't get charged sales tax on shipping in the test store, and viola, it worked exactly as it should have.

I have checked and double-checked and the settings in my store and in this test store regarding everything related to sales tax are exactly the same for everything. I have no doubts about this. This leads me to believe that there is something outside of Admin that is causing things to default to always charging sales tax on everything no matter what.

Where should I be looking to figure out what, outside of admin, is causing this?

Thanks again!
