Guest
Hi, Firstly, thanks to all the contributors on this forum. I started as a complete novice to oscommerce, programming and everything else to do with websites but without all of your help, I'd still be working out how to install the damn thing. But thank you anyway. This site is still far from complete, but I always end up spending ages sweating the small stuff when I should be looking at the bigger picture. So please take a look and let me know what areas I should be concentrating on. I know it's basic, but that's why I am asking for guidance. I'd also like to let you know the history of why this website is running. I'm not going to give you my life story, but hopefully you'll understand why I have undertaken this project with a skill level of about 0.01%. Basically, it's a bet. I was discussing career paths with my wife and I happened to mention that ONE DAY, I would like to run my own business. Then finances come into the conversation and we were talking about how much it was to set up a business. She refused to believe that anyone can make money without a decent amount of start up capital. I disagreed and said it is as much about research and taking advice from the many experts (hence my use of this forum). So basically, the bet is, that I reckon I can set up a business on less than £100 and in 6 months, show a profit of some kind. Please help me get one over on 'her indoors'. It is a very rare occurence. About the site: These are the things I am either in the process of or require further guidance on: SSL Certificate: Do i need one if all my payments go through PayPal? URL's and MetaTags etc.: I know I need to do this and am probably going to use the 'Search Engine Friendly URL' unless anyone has any other recommendations. Products: The site still has several hundred items to be added. Mainly clothing, but Product Attributes are such a pain in the backside for so many products, I am still searching for a contrib that is going to take less than six months to apply all the size/colour options. Whatever advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated. And advice you can offer that is going to cost, please advise on a cheap solution. Historian
The main reasons why you have had no replies: 1. "This site is still far from complete" - so there is not much point in commenting! 2. You are asking questions about SSL & Metatags etc - This is NOT the area to be doing that.
Guest
The main reasons why you have had no replies: 1. "This site is still far from complete" - so there is not much point in commenting! 2. You are asking questions about SSL & Metatags etc - This is NOT the area to be doing that. 1. Hence the statement "So please take a look and let me know what areas I should be concentrating on. I know it's basic, but that's why I am asking for guidance." 2. The point of the original post wasn't about asking specific questions about SSL and MetaTags. They were an addendum which was pre-empting the comments that would no doubt have been given about having neither of these set up. SSL & MetaTags are usually commented on when reviewed. It was a general question of 'please take a look and offer guidance'. Surely it would be better to get one detailed response rather than posting several questions over different areas that would lose the context in which they were originally asked. As much as I appreciate all the good advice that is offered on this site, the occasional comments from certain members which are narciscistic and serve no purpose but to provide the author with an undeserved smirk of smugness, detract from its value.
