ohioman
Hi all! I am starting my OS Commerce site from scatch again and have run into quite a deal with USPS now. I have done the following: 1) Verified with USPS that I am registered with the correct type of account. 2) Been issued a USPS username. 3) Verified that USPS has place my account on production mode. According to them... I am completely set to receive real time shipping rates from them from their end. 4) Place my USPS username in the appropriate field in the modules area of admin and leave the password field blank.. as I understand they do not use a password. (as suggested in another thread) 5) Place my USPS username in the appropriate field in the modules area of admin and ALSO place the username in the password field. (as suggested in another thread) 6) Changed the sort field to both 0 or 1 ... and neither makes a difference. (as suggested in another thread) 7) Uninstalled and reinstalled the USPS module and retried steps (4 - 6) with no difference. The error I get when trying to receive real time shipping rates is the following: An error occured with the USPS shipping calculations. If you prefer to use USPS as your shipping method, please contact the store owner. I have seen this error many times in the forums and it seems that this is a generic error message that comes up in the checkout... which up to this point is all I have to go on. Now that I think of it... perhaps someone might think of a contribution that will provide a more specific error message to assist in the troubleshooting of this module.. or others? At any rate.... the only thing out of anything that I can find that I haven't done is to add the contributions for USPS.... I think the latest is 2.9.1 at the moment? I only ship in the continental US.. so the changing of the foreign rates a few months ago should not affect my receiving domestic rates. Anyone have any ideas?.... sure would appreciate it! ;)
Guest
Who do you email to tell them to go to production mode? I am having the same error during checkout "An error occured with the USPS shipping calculations. If you prefer to use USPS as your shipping method, please contact the store owner." But I havent emailed to get it changed to production mode. I just want to charge 6 bucks for shipping in the US and 9.50 to canada, I have two zones setup Anyways, if you could help in anyway, I would appreciate it. ohioman
Something that I thought of today that I wondered about... is the weight of the products. I have seen posts here that suggest that they can be written in the form of EX: 1.75 . However... is it acceptable to be less than a pound? Not sure if that is causing this problem or not. I suspect that maybe not but I have completely run out of ideas.
usernamenone
Uninstall your USPS module. Back out of payments clear your browser and then return to payments and reinstall your USPS module. Make sure you have contacted USPS and Call them if you have to to switch you to production mode.

Dear Ohioman, Double check you have your correct postal/zip code entered in your admin, under Configuration and Shipping/Packaging. If the correct postal/zip code, or none at all, isn't listed, that will give you that error message. As for weight, you can enter as little as one ounce. You just have to use the correct format. The majority of my inventory weighs less than one pound, so I made myself a chart with the ounce conversions, i.e., 1 oz = 0.0625, 2 oz = 0.125, 3 oz = 0.187, etc. and entered the weights accordingly. Hope this helps. Brightest Blessings, Azure Moon aka, Dawn Owner and Webmaster, Azure Moon Jewelry And Gifts www.azuremoonjewelry.com
ohioman
Well... well... well.... now I really feel foolish! I went into the admin ---> configuration ---> shipping/packaging link and ... yep.. it said NONE where my zip code should be. I really appreciate the help both of you guys have given me to fix my problem. Also... it was a good thing that the conversion idea is here too... since I now see that entering .3 for weight comes out to be 3.3 lbs... instead of 1/3 of a lb. Thank you very much, Calvin
ohioman
**** UPDATE **** I wanted to post this right quick as a correction to my previous post above. Entering .3 in the admin --- > configuration ---> shipping/packaging link will NOT give you 3.3 lbs as a figure for real time shipping rates in the USPS module. You will get .33 lbs. The reason I got 3.3 lbs was because also located in the admin ---> configuration ---> shipping/packaging link is the option for the Package Tare Weight. I had a 3 there which accounts for the additional 3 lbs. Hopefully I've posted in time such that no one caught bad information. Thanks, Calvin
