Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have installed OScommerce using Fantastico and am in the process of setting up the Cache Directory. The problem is that I do not find a 'catalog' folder anywhere among the folders on my server. Is there another folder that I am suppose to use to create the subfolder 'cache' in? thanks

When u extract the file (say if u downloaded here) it will start with /cataglog/ then all files in there etc. With fantastico it will be what ever u set the directory of shop to be. it might be /shop/ instead.

By the way when u mean set up cache i gather thats the tmp directory? that goes in the root directory.

I didnt have any freakin links in my sig!!! Pm me for help any other things ;-) There!

Oh i think I understand now. I didn't actually install the files myself but installed them using one of the hosting company's utilities (fantastico). So I think u mean that all of the files that were uploaded were included in the catalog folder. so I now need to create a temp folder called 'cache' within my public_html folder. Is that correct? Thanks

Ok when you installed using fantasico (same as easy apps but not sure how install resembles) it offers you to install in a directory right? just look for where shop is (so u see the admin folder) and stick it in there (not in the admin but same directory as admin folder).

Cache folder i think is tmp isnt it not cache. Make sure its chmod to 777

You shouldn't use the cache facility on shared servers - or you can end up with other osCommerce websites Categories listed on your website.

If you are referring to the use of the 'tmp' folder for sessions then edit both configure.php files to read 'mysql' where indicated on the last line. This stores sessions in the database and not in files in a folder.

Session files in a folder never get deleted - but sessions stored in the database get cleaned up by MySQL after 23 minutes of inactivity.

Hey guys,

thanks for your advice but I think this is being made more complicated than it needs to be. I am just trying to get my site configured according to configurations instructions in the oscommerce pdf manual which says:

'Through an FTP program, create a subfolder named "cache" in the "catalog" folder and

set the chmod permissions to 777. Then go to Configuration/Cache. Click on "Use

Cache" and set to "true". Click on Cache Directory

and set the absolute directory path to the "cache" folder.'

My problem is that I didn't find a folder called 'catalog' among my server files to create the "cache" subfolder in. But I will try creating the "cache" subfolder in the same folder as the "admin" folder which for me is my "public_html" folder or directory and see where this leads. I appreciate the help.
