open ssl certificate or a real ssl certificate

The question of my provider is as follows

'Do you need to have an open ssl certificate installed or do you need a real ssl certificate.

You should ask your software provider (oscommerce in my case)'

Who knows - and what is the difference between them anyway?

thanx Henk

Their question is somewhat mis-stated, at least in my mind. I think what they meant to ask is if you want a shared ssl or a private one. Openssl is an option nomally complied into php and not something they would install, unless they do not nomally offer that option. But it will not provide your site the protection you need. You will need either a shared or private ssl cert. The main differences are that the shared is free and you can choose the name to be used in the url with the private.
