Downloadable Products - Need Help

Would someone be kind enough to go through the basic steps of creating products that are both downloadable and shipable at the same time? I'm just not getting the download part of this and I have really been looking. There is a short blurb in the OSCDex guide that mentions setting the download attribute and some permissions. I've found a section under Product Attributes that allows me to enter a file name, expiry and number of downloads, but it doesn't seem to be working on my test product, nor is it clicking in my head just yet :roll: .

 

We will be selling software, the only choices will be if you want to download it now or have it shipped on CD via USPS Priority Mail. I don't know if I will need the download manager contrib or not since I haven't figured out the basics of the builtin stuff yet. I could really use a 1,2,3 step by step answer for this one. I'm about to loose my cable connection to maintenance so I will check in the AM (later in the AM).

 

PS: What exactly is the catalog/pub folder for?

There is a lot of previous posts on this subject, but you cannot search for 'download.' Use advanced search and search for:

* FreeCallForPrice

* download.php

This is very basic, but sometimes we forget the little things, so forgive me if you did this already. In Admin in the Configuration section click on the item called "Download" and enable downloads.

Well that explains why I wasn't getting anything on target from my searches. I got a little more from searching these, but I'm honestly still in the dark. When I get this figured out, I think the biggest contribution I could make is helping with the documentation! If anyone who has a handle on selling downloadable products would like to help me, I would appreciate the effort :lol: I'm placing my ICQ in my profile if that is possible. I'm trying here but it's really foggy.
