Cth Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 I can't seem to figure this out, and thought I'd ask as it seems simple, and I've seen other sites using OSC do this. I have an online comic shop, and have to add a few hundred items each month. The problem being, is that not all of these items have images to display. When I create an item and insert it without an image, it displays on the site with a big empty spot and the usual red circle with an X (no image loaded) icon. Is there a way to set the software up to display images with items that have images, and just text links for those that don't? Alternately.. is there a way to modify the "What's New" and "Specials" section so that it only displays items with images and ignores those that do not? Thanks, Travis http://www.preordercomics.com
jperry Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 Is there a way to set the software up to display images with items that have images, and just text links for those that don't? go to admin>configuration>images>image required = false only products with images will display an image Hope this works for you.
Cth Posted November 22, 2002 Author Posted November 22, 2002 Hrm.. that's the thing.. I have tried that, and it still will display an empty area to reserve space for an image. Any other suggestions by chance? Thanks! -Travis
Cth Posted November 22, 2002 Author Posted November 22, 2002 One more thing that may help.. When I originally set up OSC, it was done using the host machine's name. I've since set up a virtual domain name. In other words, instead of ghmonline.addr.com I'm using preordercomics.com Maybe its' referenced somewhere causing it to do this? -T
Julio Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 Travis: Why not create a nice icon that displays: No Imagige Available, or something alike?
JimPMM Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 Try going to Admin->Configuration->Images, and deleting the small image width and small image height. It should then only display images if they're there, and nothing if not! Doesn't affect image sizes - all seems ok on my site, and this is what I've done after encountering the same problem. Hope this helps
Cth Posted November 22, 2002 Author Posted November 22, 2002 Hrm, I've contemplated uploading an empty or tiny graphic to be honest, and may try it. I was hoping it was some configuration error on my part before I tried this solution however. Regarding deleting the small image sizes, I just tried it, and unfortunately it defaults the images to the regular size. I've got each image set to a specific size so they'll appear the same on the site, resembling a "book".. Maybe I will have to resize images before uploading. That may not be too difficult a solution. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for the suggestions! -Travis
Cth Posted November 22, 2002 Author Posted November 22, 2002 Ok, here's the latest.. I've resized all my existing product images to 100x150 (resembling a book).. I can live without the enlarged images, and I can comment those out of the code so as to not annoy/confuse customers. I've got another question now, and I'll likely post another topic on it, but just in case anyone's reading and can pop in.. Since I'll be adding a *LOT* of content each month, sans images, is there a way to tell the "New Products" subroutine to ignore all products that don't have images? In other words, the items I'll be spotlighting and placing on Special will have images, while 3/4ths of the store will not have images associated with them. Any quick solutions/suggestions? Thanks, Travis
