Using the new checkout on a previous snapshot?

Is it possible to do this without breaking the cart? I am having problems with the Canada Post module, and understand that the new CP module works great with the new checkout, so I would like to try using both on my Oct 15th Snapshot as I have already pretty much finished the cart, but hate to lose everything.
