ive uploaded oscommerce to my server through ftp but when i try and install it im getting this error message

FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!

how do i fix this ive downloaded a patch but dont know what to do with it

can someone please help as i am totaly new to this and very confused
