Dilyard Posted November 19, 2002 Posted November 19, 2002 My ISP has just recently installed Miva free for their customers and is now offering PayQuake merchant accounts. PayQuake seems like a good deal as I've been starting to shop around for an affordable merchant account. Here's what I'm looking at with PayQuake: Setup fee: $0.00 Monthly minimum: $0.00 Gateway cost: $0.00 Total Monthly Investment: $0.00 Annual Membership fee: $49.00 Discount rate: 3.75% Transaction fee: $.50 My biggest problem is finding or writing an osCommerce module for PayQuake. Anyone have any experience with this product? Anyone have any better suggestions for a merchant account provider that is already supported by osCommerce? Thanks
Jan0815 Posted November 19, 2002 Posted November 19, 2002 If you could provide more details about this payment gateway (developers information, Integration Guide etc.) I will not consider your post as SPAM ;-) The choice of a good payment gateway is hard to make. It depends on a lot of factors. What goods are you selling? Where are you located? What is your intended audience? Are you planning to do international delivery? How many orders will be made daily/weekly/monthly? A good decision is based on answers to all of these questions and cannot be generalized. My suggestion: Think about what you really need, make a list of requirements and start comparing. HTH You can't have everything. Slindo Posted November 19, 2002 Posted November 19, 2002 Sounds like Westhost to me - don't know what level of account you have (if I guess right) but I was reall disappointed after all the "Free Miva" hoopla to find that the version on the cheaper accts won't work in a secure mode making them useless for anything but PayPal, and to really use Miva you need other overprices, extra cost services from Miva. That's the nice thing about a free shopping cart and your own merchant acct is you are free of being stuck to any one service/system. Re Payquake, my understanding is that they are actaully using authorize net for their gateway - they are not actually anything new or different but have just essentially rolled a traditional merchant acct in with a gateway and so you only pay one fee. I haven't done the math yet to figure out if its a savings. Frankly (once again, if you are using Westhost) I don't trust their current dismal level of support to make anything work so I would be leary of Payquake thorough them. Slindo Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 Just did the math and it turns out that with Payquake I would save about $200 a year over my current old-style, non-inet merchant acct (so I immediately called them up and told them so, and asked for an acct. review) which doesn't include an inet gateway. So Payquake looks like an OK deal. So someone write a module for it, quickly, please? BTW the cheap Westhost MIVA turns out will work securely with Payquake even though Westhost doesn't know it. That is to say, the CC# will be kept secure but maybe not the rest of the order info.
Dilyard Posted November 21, 2002 Author Posted November 21, 2002 Yes, it is WestHost I'm using. If you are saying that PayQuake is secure, can I assume the transaction goes through a 3rd party server (PayQuake's) similar to the way a PayPal transaction occurs? I've played around a little bit with Miva and though it may have some extra functionality over osCommerce, I don't think it comes close to being as nice to use from a customer standpoint. I think I'll stick to osCommerce. I've asked Westhost if there are any API's available for PayQuake, but have not heard back from them as of yet. I'll probably have to go to PayQuake directly to get any useful information.
Slindo Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 That's how I understand it, though I am still trying to get confimation from Payquake. One thing to remember is that when you finally loose patience with Westhost (I have found their support to be dismal, and wouldn't dare try to install oscommerce there- have you?), you will be forced to either buy MIVA to move your site, or find another, higher priced emcommerce site, that has it. With osCommerce you can move to any decent $5-10 a month host and be in business, and if you do a little shopping, they may already have it installed. The other thing is MIVA is customizable to a point but then you run into a brick wall (at least I do, with my primtitive level of comprehensiion. Yes, it is WestHost I'm using.
