Comments when ordering an item

I have a product that is a mix and match of my steak jerky. It's 2 lbs and the user can get how much of each flavor they want to make up the two pounds. My question is, how do I implement that? I was thinking a comment box on the item page that gets added to the cart along with the item. Does anybody have any idea how to get that to work or have a better idea?

I'd make this a product option, set up a list of choices and make them alternative values for the option. Maybe something like "half beef, half turkey", "1/3 each beef, turkey, ostrich" and so on.

 

Using the comment box at the end of the ordering process is too remote from the time the product choice is made.
