Hi I have just installed RedHat8 on a lInux box to try the shop. I am so far a win guy, so need help here please.

I have the tep-pr2.1.zip which i took to the linux box and unravelled it.

It showed catalog, admin, tep-docs dirs

I put this catalog dir in the / dir of the drive but that's where I'm stuck.

The Install file refers to dirs of another name.

I will start again.

Any easy to install the start at least help please.

Thanks

Put the "catalog" and "admin" directories in the /var/www/html/ directory. Put the "tep-docs" directory in the /usr/share/doc directory. You can access the catalog by typing http://www.<yourservername>.com/cata...log/default.php

Some configurations are different. The install instructions provided assume you only have a user directory on someone elses box. If you own your own box using Red Hat 8.0 then you do it this way.

I would search for the file called httpd.conf

(usually in /usr/local/apache/conf/)

That is the webserver (Apache) config file and inthere you determine your webserver's document root and VirtualHost settings etc. Check for the directive DocumentRoot inthere, that is where your osCommerce files should go. If you make changes to httpd.conf you will have to /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart your webserver.

Thank you all for your help..

Well finally did it.

Now that I am over the fence I can see how easy it really is, but I still recall the things that confused me and that maybe a 'dooby nooby' manual is the go!

I'll try and jot the stuff down that confused me, but like all of us, I too am running against dealines that are about to grab me by the throat!

I am now into changing the products and things in the admin area and then will try and make some changes to the cosmetic areas.

Still need to know how to set perms in an apache shell on a XP machinre tho'.

Of course that will not matter when I am able to launch the completed shopm into linux web space!

Don't think you have heard that last of me yet here!
