i'm trying to get my new oscommerce site up and running (http://www.advancespeedshop.com) so that is is search engine friendly and that i'm listed on the search engines such as google and yahoo. so far what i've done is installed

1)header tags controller

2) ultimate SEO

3) dynamic sitemap

4) google xml sitefeed/sitemap

my questions are these:

1) with all of those modules installed, it should be a great way to start. but how exactly does getting on the search engines work? i've done all the xml, created the site map, made my site SEO, used headers and keywords, etc. but i'm still not listed on the search engines if i were to even search advancespeedshop, or any products or product models. am i missing something?

2) can this module links manager II add more to get my rank up?

3) what else is there for me to do? do i just need to wait?

First you need to submit your xml sitemap to google. Yes the links manager contribution would help. But, you can't just install it. You have to exchange links with people and the links manager contribution helps you to manage the link exchanges.

Here is a really good post about link exchanges: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=245197

You do need to have relevant link exchanges though. Some people believe google could consider you a spam site if you have a whole bunch of nonrelevant links. You may also want to try adwords to get more traffic.

Also, try this: http://www.google.com/addurl/

Also, I just looked at your site. You need to make sure your product names are in H1 tags. There are instructions for this in the header tags contribution. If you follow all the installation instructions it should put the product titles in h1 tags. Google gives more weight to text in h1 tags.

when i'm adding the urls to google and yahoo .. am i suppose to be adding

http://www.advancespeedshop.com (which redirects to http://www.advancespeedshop.com/shop where my oscommerce is located)

or

http://www.advancespeedshop.com/shop

I would put advancespeed.com/shop

Most people think it is better to have the store in the main directory. Meaning you wouldn't have to type the /shop onto the url.

actually, you are in google. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navc...speedshop%2ecom It looks like it hasn't respidered all of your changes yet though. You need to get some incoming links to raise your pagerank.

One more thing. List your products in froogle (google base). Search the contributions for a froogle listing contribution. When someone searches for a product that you have listed in froogle, it will show up on top of the google search page.
