Open SSL?

openssl is a base ssl system integrated into your server software, it can also be used to create self signed certificates but those are not recommended to use on live public sites since visitors will recieve certificate warnings in their browser.

To avoid those warning pop-ups on a live site open to public you should use a commercial third party CA provider ssl certificate, which is available from some suppliers for less than 20 usd a year. (some even offer free certificates for up to 90 days)

thankyou Nick, looks like theres no way round buying an SSL certificate :P
Many hosts offer a free, shared cert. You might want to look into that option if you don't want to purchase one.
