deker Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 Hello, I'm new to the OSC community, and am in the process of setting up my first functioning store with it. But I have a couple of unique challenges that I need some help/advice on. I am going to be selling personalized gifts on my store, so obviously there needs to be an intuitive way to specify the names to be engraved on each item. I would greatly prefer this text to be associated with each item, like the products attributes are now (color, size, etc) rather than having a form at the end of the checkout page. Because if they ordered 5 different products, we probably wouldn't know which names went with which item. I would also like to have the ability to let people click on a "Browse" button, browse to a file on their hard drive, and send it along with their order (for their logo, custom graphics, etc.) So... Does anyone know of a way to accomplish these things? Or are there plans to include them in a future release/contribution? I am familiar with PHP, but not enough to really tackle this on my own. Perhaps if anyone had some general ideas on how to implement the code, I could piece it together. Thanks for any help you can provide.
deker Posted November 13, 2002 Author Posted November 13, 2002 I found a Contribution that will allow the custom text, but I would still like to do the uploading of a graphic file for their logo. Thanks again.
Guest Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 I found a Contribution that will allow the custom text I am trying to add text options for some products but I can't find this contribution. Thanks in advance.
deker Posted November 20, 2002 Author Posted November 20, 2002 http://www.oscommerce.com/downloads.php/co...82d55fec0ea4864 There is the link. It's kinda difficult to install unless you are using the same build as the one the author used. And you have to manually manipulate the database every time you setup a new text option, but if you need it, it's worth it.

Would be really nice to see this included in a future build of OSC by default. It's a much needed feature.
Guest Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 I am a little nervous about doing all of this but I will give it a shot. Thanks for the fast response. I have posted several questions and most of them go with no reply.
deker Posted November 20, 2002 Author Posted November 20, 2002 Yeah, same with me. I actually didn't get any response to my questions... If you don't feel comfortable messing with it, consider this shopping cart [commercial advert removed by sparky], but has a great interface for adding cart options and is pretty much the same thing as OSC. we ended up going with it instead of OSC for that reason alone. Our business depends on having people enter their own text to put on items, so we had to have a better way to do it.
Mark Evans Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 I have posted several questions and most of them go with no reply. Yeah, same with me. I actually didn't get any response to my questions... The main reason for this happening is that you ask questions that have been asked more then a few hundred times before and with answers that can be found by doing a little searching. deker Posted November 20, 2002 Author Posted November 20, 2002 Yes, I did some searching and answered my own question. So I apologize for posting before doing the proper amount of research. Definitely won't happen again.

Spent almost half a day trying to find this with no luck. I'm sure it was there I just couldn't find it. You couldn't help because my question was stupid so after a lot of searching I found someone who could and then you edit their answer. I would try to make osCommerce work for this site. I have it running on several sites and love it but if someone has a better idea for my problem why do you care if on one site I try something else that might better serve my customer. In no way did I intend to knock osCommerce it is a great product. Now I wonder if this is the kind of help my customers get since-unlike most I've seen-I leave the osCommerce links in tact on every site I have done with osCommerce. I hope you don't make them feel the same way you made me feel.
