Criz Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 Hello, I would like to remove 'new products' on the front page and replace it with a visual of all the availabe categories (with thumbnails). Can anyone help me out? I figured out how to disable the 'new products' box but am still looking for a way to add these categories. Thanks! Chris
sw45859 Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 ooops i didn't read, still not awake, ignore the last one, so you want to create a category listing with images and links instead of just links?
Criz Posted November 13, 2002 Author Posted November 13, 2002 Not reallly, If you click on a category it shows the subcategories in the default page. I would like to show the categories itself (not the subs, but exactly like it) on the initial default page (when you enter the website). And since we do not have a lot of new products, I would like to get rid off the 'new products'-section and put there the categories instead. I hope I have explained myself a little better   Regards, Chris
alougher Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 Yes, I'd like to do the same. Basically for it to look like you've clicked on your top most category where it shows all the categories on the main page.
Guest Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 Yes I am another one, I don't have any new products now that my catalog is complete. If I add a new line I will activate the new products window then. But I think it looks classy to have your catalog with its image underneath your introduction in the same box format as and where new products is. I have also seen other "live shops that have done this." I think we are all clear that we want the same thing here - I/we look forward to anyone who has the code for this if they felt inclined to share it with us. Kind regards Ken
Criz Posted November 13, 2002 Author Posted November 13, 2002 Do you have examples (url;s) of sites that have implemented this feature? So we can take a look at their source code, maybe we can learn something from it. Regards, Chris
xaraya Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 Are you wanting something like this? http://shokdeals.com
Guest Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 Nice site but...... I'm thinking something more along the lines of this: http://turquoisevillage.com/
xaraya Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 This might do the trick... can't find an example site though. http://www.oscommerce.com/downloads.php/co...ions,660/type,5
Criz Posted November 14, 2002 Author Posted November 14, 2002 Thanks to you all! I got it working on my site. I inserted the advised contribution and it works great, exactly what I was looking for! :D I adjusted the file 'main_categories.php' a little bit to center all the products, to get the names etc below and not next to each other. I also put 3 categories in 1 row instead of 2 in the current version. If you would like to get this modified file, just reply or send me an e-mail. Thanks again and success to you all! Chris PS I will also try to look in disabling the subcategories (the text links), it could look more attractive without  although of course it makes surfing easier
Guest Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 How do you like they do on this website http://shokdeals.com/ on their frontpage. I am looking for this as well :9 Any ideas ? Kim
Criz Posted November 14, 2002 Author Posted November 14, 2002 That site looks great, but it isnt exactly a list of the topcategories. They added some tables with news, featured products etc. Looks great, but not same as the categories. Chris
