Use order numbers for Users

Could someone let me know how to also have an order number used for each order placed, and have that dynamically calculated. I've seen contributions that print it on the invoice. But I want to be able to search the database for an order number, and have it show up in the orders portion of the Admin.

As far as i know there's already an unique order number.

Check the confirmation e-mail, you can see a order number in there.
