Guest Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 I have this in my user tracking contribution i added, and looks like it hit about an hour ago but it never went past the first entrance hit to my site. I just submitted it to google last week. Is this like a "preview" bot or something, or did it just "hiccup" on my site? Isn't it suppsoed to spider out to the other pages??
CC Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Have you read up on the google discussion that has been going on for a while now? If not you need to. If you have, then have you implemented the hacks you need? Read up about it, you can miss it, it is about 14 pages long now! CC.
Guest Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 yeah i've been following it, but i've never had a googlebot hit my site yet since it hasn't been finished. But I understood the problems as session id's causing 1000's of hits. I've had one, and that is it! I'm in the process of trying to get Ian Wilson's contrib ID Killer working, but I can't figure out the html_output file isnce is an older dated snapshot from early June. I posted about that in the contrib forum. I'm just concerned because it never got past the first hit to my site.
Trusten Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 speaking of which, do i need the meta tags on ALL headings? or just the main page?
Paul_C Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 AFAIK google doesn't pay any attention to meta tags; it's my understanding that the last of the larger engines to do so is Inktomi. "It's a damn poor mind that can only think of one way to spell a word." -- Andrew Jackson
CC Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 I must be losing touch. What does AFAIK mean?? CC.
Paul_C Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 And I've been on forums too long... AFAIK == As Far As I Know "It's a damn poor mind that can only think of one way to spell a word." -- Andrew Jackson

Guest Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Google doesnt read meta tags as keywords but it does read them!! IT counts the number of words that are total in your document and includes the meta words! Heres a brief run down of what google wants, its from a report I ran on one of my pages, so teh suggestions are for my site, after i ran the report! this report was specifically aimed at the google search engine. A keyword prominence of at least 41% is suggested for the Link Text area. Your prominence is 25.0% right now so you might consider increasing your prominence in the Link Text. A keyword frequency from 1 to 6 is suggested for the Hyperlink Url area. Your frequency is 19.3 right now so you might consider decreasing your Keyword count in the Hyperlink Url. A keyword frequency from 1 to 2 is suggested for the Alt area. Your frequency is 0.0 right now so you might consider increasing your Keyword count in the Alt. A word count from 1 to 37 is suggested for the Alt area. Your word count is 57 right now so you might consider decreasing your word count in the Alt. A keyword prominence of at least 44% is suggested for the Alt area. Your prominence is 0.0% right now so you might consider increasing your prominence in the Alt. A keyword prominence of at least 40% is suggested for the Body Text area. Your prominence is 35.5% right now so you might consider increasing your prominence in the Body Text. A total frequency from 5 to 24 is suggested for the page as a whole. Your total frequency is 27 now, so you might consider decreasing your frequency count. A total word count from 361 to 625 is suggested for the page as a whole. Your total word count is 848 now, so you might consider decreasing your word count. If anyone is interested in having reports like this run on there site let me know, there is tons more info that I can provide too, just ask :)
