Guest Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Okay this is probably a really stupid question, but I can't seem to find the answer yet... I have been running OSC for over 12 months now, and I know I have installed a couple of contributions, although stupid me, didn't make a note anywhere of what I installed! Is there somewhere to have a look and see what contribution and what version is installed? My other option I had was to totally create a new OSC install, add to it the contribs I want and then copy over the database, although I would prefer not to do that as I have very bad luck and nine times out of ten something bad happens. Last time I stuffed up the site the backup turned out to be corrupt and it all ended in tears. Help would be appreciated. Thanks! Fiona
Ausgirl Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Why dont you just look at whats installed in your admin or database (extra tables compared to stock osc). If you have say links installed checkout the links.php file. The file usually has something like $Id: links.php,v 1.07 2005/5/28 Exp $ in the top of the file, then you could go to the contributions and do a search on links v1.07 some files also have something like // begin links manager. You could try that and from now on keep a folder called "mods installed in my store" on your PC with all the contributions youve added in your store so you can keep track. Dont know if Ive helped you any but its just a thought. Have fun
rrrhythm Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 sound to me like you're sort of out of luck on this one, and you've got some detective work to do. some (but not all) contribs bracket their changes with comments, which might indicate which version it was. if you have any memory of what files you modified, you could check for those. or you could compare all of your files to the standard osc files either using a program to compare them, or just your own eyes. (i keep two copies of my store for just that reason, one is my current store, the other is the stock osC store for comparison). for example, if you open your copy of index.php, and a copy of the stock index.php, put them side by side and scroll through it should be pretty easy to spot where they differ. then again, there are a lot of files to look at. or you could compare functionality, what does your shop do that the stock store doesn't. that might prompt your memory. or you could have some hypnotherapy to extract your memories of what you installed. you could do a past life regression while you're at it, and learn that you used to be the queen of england, or something like that. i've run into the same issue, at least not remembering exactly which version of a contrib i installed, and have begun keeping an archive of the original download for every contrib i install. good luck, rj
dynamoeffects Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Another thought is to install a default osCommerce shop somewhere else and note the differences. Guest Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Id be looking for a crystal ball if I were you, Good Luck! The way that I track changes to files is this: In the header, I put the name of the contrib I am installing, even if I am only testiong it. Released under the GNU General Public License Installed Contribution 1 Contribution 2 - removed because it is superceded by Contrib 5 Contribution 3 Contribution 4 OSC Update whatever Contribution 5 Contribution 6 Such and such from the support forum */
Ausgirl Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I found this handy little mod in the contributions. It might help you for future reference.
Jack_mcs Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 As stated, there is no easy way to tell what has been changed, but for future changes, you could also install the Site Monitor contribution. It is not meant for this purpose but it will generate a log file of all files that were changed (as long as they are being monitored). So you would have a dated history of all of your changes automatically allow with the main purpose of the contribution.
