OScommerce technical introduction

Hey folks,

 

Just starting out on the road of putting together and online store.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of any books/links/pdfs

anything really that gives a decent description of the OSCommerce framework.

 

Also if anyone has any good resources for php handy as well that would be great.

I'm a java developer by trade but am actively using jruby at the minute and have

used php a little in the past.

 

I'm going to integrate my site with Paypals website standard. if anyone has any tech

resources for that too or knows of any posts and could point me that would be great.

I've searched through the forums but most of the posts I've come across seem to be

isolated problems at different stages of the integration.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The main documentation site is: www.oscommerce.info, but it's fairly incomplete for developers. You really just have to jump into the code and try to make sense out of it.

 

The most information can be found in the tens of thousands of posts that have amassed here over the last 5 years. Don't use the forum search engine as it's worthless, but going to google and searching like this should answer most of your questions:

If you want PayPal to take your customers credit card numbers, most ppl use and recommend PayPal IPN

Aye i've read through a few of those pdfs before and their fairly complete but as ye say there's not much in the way of the framework discussion going on.

I guess I'll give trawling through the code a go first.

does the IPN correspond to Paypal's Website Payments Standard?

I spent a day or so looking into WPP only to discover that the service is not available in ireland.

That's a huge shame because I know myself as soon as I'm moved from the site I'm buying from

I've a tendancy to get nervous even though I've a fair understanding as to what's going on.

 

I'm gonna spend the next few days trying to integrate with WPS and see how it goes though.

Is the IPN an two step process? Would ye know if there'll be any waiting period on the customer's side for me to authorise the transaction?
