php.ini Error during Installation

Recommended Posts

Right I have created my data base via my hostings webtool and noted the details.

I have uploaded the catalog directory in ASCII mode and checked the permission on the directory permission are set to 755.

Thats all OK.

But when i try to go to install folder I get

FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!

I have done a search on here, but not found much, the last being a post from 2003 from the look of it.

Help please. This is my first attempt at installing this..

I am using "oscommerce-2.2ms2-060817" which I downloaded from the osc site a day or so ago.

Since you are just starting there was a NEW release yesterday http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=268335 which has this

See if that version works for you and will save you some updating time.

It seems the Milestone 2.2 version I downloaded required global registries that www.web-mania.co.uk do not support.

The V2.2 Rc1 version I downloaded today.. worked well.

BUT the base permission of the catalogue folder and all inside were set to "000" as default. So had to be changed to 777 to get it going.

The install process now differs even more from the "installation" document. It might be an idea to add a note to make this clear to new users such as myself.

Oh and there was No apparent option to not load the demo data base option. Not that i wanted to not too, but for the more skilled and experienced people out there, they may not wish to import that data.

Now its there, its working and I need to start the long treck of customising and turning it in UK standard.

I am using that version, and it still doesn't work! I still have the php.ini fatal error, though I can use the Admin facility, which is nice....
