Philth Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Morning all, Would value some feedback on my new site please - after being in 'development' for way too long, I'm planning to finally go live with it over the weekend once Ive added more stock. Tigerlily Cards The payment structure is live - so watch out!! Many thanks in advance. Philth
Andrew Yuen Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 I would remove the -> from the category box. I would also get rid of the add to favorites box and move that bookmark us link to the information infobox. Also, I would change the rollover color link to match your current color scheme. Just by looking at the overall design of your store (especially the header) I really cannot figure out what you sell. I guess I cannot make the connection between butterflies and cards. However, I thought the site was pretty self explanatory to be honest, and the feedback so far from visitors outside of this forum has been positive in this aspect. One thing that has been raised is that the banner needs modifying to state that it is the store site, as people have clicked on that expecting to go back to the flash site. Cheers anyway, and I look forward to more feedback. Philth
Philth Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 Does anyone else have any thoughts? Please let me know!!! Thanksin advance, Philth
georgec Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Does anyone else have any thoughts? Please let me know!!! Thanksin advance, Philth - Overall comment - dont mix serif and sans-serif fonts. Exception - you can use a different style for your headers but as far as your main content and box content goes, try stick to the same font family. - Your "Categories" menu needs some work. Get rid of all-caps, make the font smaller. You can even use "font-variant: small-caps". Add some bullets, get rid of "->". The bullets will help you separate the items so your "Special Requests" dont look like 2 different categories. (see http://dev.petsready.com) - Your logo... why not incorporating the actual image of tigerlily? I think it would look great if you replace the first butterfly w/it (e.g. http://paularmstrongdesigns.com/photos/photos/tigerlily.jpg, http://anneheck.typepad.com/photos/uncateg.../tigerlily.jpg) You can also use it for your category menu bullets. - Your images (thumbnails).. try putting a thin border around them... "border: solid thin #color_a_bit_darker_from_your_beige_bg". Maybe even add 2px padding, too my $0.02 Cheers, G
smbrayton Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Hi, The thing i noticed, is when i clicked " HOME " in the navigation bar, it brought me to a home page outside the site, took forever to load, i am on DSL, also it to my 2 clicks to get to a option page, but it was not even iside the site. Some people might get confused and leave. Scott

usernamenone Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 What can I say. Bla, Bla. Site colors do not match. Orange and purple! Your http://tigerlilycards.co.uk/ is nice but a waste as no one is going to wait that long for a page to load to hear music and watch a butterfly flit. Go with the html version and get some action. Also most search engines search for index content............ How do you plan on getting good ratings? change out the bullet on the categories with a small arrow or pointer. That code that came with the contribution is just to show an image and not intended to be used as your pointer. Hate the navs, reduce the font size and don't use caps. If you must use the light background then use that color for everything.. wash the whole site in #F9EDE8 not just the inside boxes. But I would use this color as it matches the index and will mesh with the header #F0B9A5 I thought a tigerlilly was a flower and not a butterfly. Your contact us box says I'm online and then call us on skype and chat with us on skype. Sould be We are online. Get http://www.nattyware.com/pixie.html Run Pixie a free color picker to help you choose colors that match. I like to product line. Just not the colors of the site. Wow - thanks for the comments - some a bit too over critical I think, but anyway... Purple????? Can you tell me what browser youre using, because I cant see any purple at all?? The bullets were stopgaps whilst I changed them - realise that the others were not meant to b used. 'Hate the navs'? why? html version is being worked on curently - hadnt forgotten it Skype don't have buttons for 'We're' online. And yes, Tigerlily is a flower, also a fictional character, but does that mean that I have to use flower images??
usernamenone Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Purple????? Can you tell me what browser youre using, because I cant see any purple at all?? It isn't the browser that displays the color but the monitor, I am on a laptop lcd screen. when switching to the desktop there is a color change. On the laptop it shows as lilac. Desktop is a pale orange/pink 'Hate the navs'? why? Hate the navs, reduce the font size and don't use caps. I see that you washed your site in a single color. Looks better. but only shows up in IE and not FireFox for some reason. Check your code for errors. As for the skype buttons. You don't have to stick with furnished buttons. Your image size is 114px wide by 20px high. You can make and replace those buttons. If you don't have an imaging software that can make a desent button then dowload GIMP for windows version, it is Freeware or you could open Paint and open a file 114px wide and 20px high and color and add text that says We Are Online and I guess there must be one that should say We Are Offline also? I still don't care for the background color. To me it comes off as cold and harsh.

Thnks for the fast feedack - I havent hanged the colour at all, so don't know whats happened there - recognise the issue in Firefox (occurs in Safari too). I use Gimp and Photoshop, but the images are sourced/loaded directly from the skype site - will have a play with the contrib and see if I can host them on my server instead.
usernamenone Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 customize your buttons http://www.skype.com/share/buttons/wizard.html Well, I see that it will still say I and not We. Maybe you could change the We to I
Martin81Vette Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I think the site is looking good but I would reduce the length of the paragraph above the New Products images. If the images are higher on the page they will have more impact. I'm hoping to get my own store up and running so good to see newbies getting going! I work for the Day Lily Cottage, we sell a wide range of Texas Crafts & Gifts from our store in Old Town Keller, Texas.
