Extremepcs Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Hello there, We are thinking of implementing oScommerce as the main platform for our new e commerce project. We have already consulted with a software development company who will develop a unique bespoke system. Obviously oScommerce was a big attraction due to being open source & some of the out of the box features. How secure is oScommerce exactly? I did a search for security issues and came across some threads which made me question whether oScommerce will be suitable. As for search engine optimization, is it fairly simple to add tags to meta fields etc? How easily are the pages scanned?? Are there any problems or barriers faced by search bots; scripts, redirects that may prevent bots from indexing the site. Also, we currently have a EPOS system that uses MS SQL - are there modules available so that oScommerce can be modified to communicate with our EPOS and another database platform?? Regards!
Jack_mcs Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Many secuity issues are fixed with the latest version so you want to be sure to use it. For meta tags, you will need to install one of the meta tags contribution, like the Header Tags Controller. You should also install one of the url rewrite contributions, like Ultimate SEO, since the long url's in a stock shop can hurt with the search engines.
