This is the latest stable release and also documentation is there.

Thank you, but this does not really answer the question the OP asked.

I was wondering the answer to this myself, this is what I was able to find out so far:

Notice: 2.2 MS2 (060817) with the *** module

Hope this helps to explain a bit more.

The OP has indeed been answered to.

The title of your quote states "2.2 MS2 (060817)" which is the release found on our downloads page. The only thing Fantastico have done is include a module which is separate from the 2.2 MS2 (060817) release.

So, if I have 2.2 MS2 (060817) installed, I have the latest version; Fantastico just wants us to install buySAFE also? Do you recommend I add buySAFE (I'm just using PayPal WPP), or can I wait a while? I just got this thing up and running and could use a break!

Oscommerce is fantastic, though! I've learned SO much. Thank you for all of your help and vast wisdom developing it!

And, all the rest of you on these boards that know what you're doing so well - and are willing help the rest of us!

Thanks,

Stacey

Stacey,

A new release was made available on July 3rd. You can download it from the link given above. There is also an upgrade file to assist in updating your 060817 version.

For some reason Fantastico thinks everyone should have the Buy Safe module. I don't agree with that since it means you are not starting out with a stock version of osC. Besides, with Fantastico, you are never guaranteed the most up to date version of osC. It is best to download directly from the osCommerce site.

Bill,

Thanks for your reply! Is the upgrade just under the downloads under solutions (the link above)? It doesn't have a number or anything, just says osCommerce Online Merchant v2.2 Release Candidate 1. How do I know when I have the latest?

So, Fantastico is a version behind, then? I'm worried that, without Fantastico, I won't be able to keep track of when oscommerce updates. Is there anyway to tell? I don't think I need buySAFE anyway. I guess I'll just turn off the Fantastico e-mails...

How crucial is this update? Is it okay if I wait a while to do it? I looked over the upgrade and will have to do it all manually, so I'm not looking forward to it. I have a pretty simple cart set up, but have added quite a bit of contributions.

Thanks again!!! You're awesome.

Stacey,

Take a look at the first post in this thread (by Harald) and it will explain the new name for osCommerce. RC1 is the version for this release and it is touted as the final release before the upcoming Online Merchant 3.0 is released.

I'm not trying to be a pain, but is this an upgrade that is crucial to security - or something else - or can I wait until 3.0 is released?

Thanks!

Stacey,

I would reccommend it only because of all of the bug fixes that are included that was not part of the 060817 release.

I understand how daunting an upgrade can be so I understand you being cautious. I would suggest that you download the files and then use a file comparison utility such as Beyond Compare or WinMerge to bring in the changes a little at a time (just to assist in troubleshooting in case something goes wrong). I would not suggest doing a "mass" merge of files unless you really are sure about what you are doing.

Hope this helps,

Bill Kellum

The hard work has already been done in the upgrade guide by showing a difference report of the modified files. This guide is available in the 2.2 RC 1 download package and is also available here (as noted in the release announcement):
