Rodland Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 I know frames are a bit naf nowadays but is there a way to have frames within an osCommerce shop - with the middle frame acting as the shop and the outer frames acting as links to basket / cashier / page links as well as links to login / language / currency etc. I created this ages ago ... http://www.christianscott.com/ .. but need to update the shopping system now to something more managable --- but I gotta keep a similar design. Any examples of framed sites around? ... and even better - some code to manage it. Any help will help. Christian :)
Rodland Posted November 9, 2002 Author Posted November 9, 2002 No Answer?   Am I right in saying that all I need to do is copy and paste the links to the php files from any frame and it will work? Christian
burt Posted November 9, 2002 Posted November 9, 2002 On topic: Why do you feel you need to utilise frames ? What benefit do you feel you get from them - what benefit do they give your visitors ? Off topic: It's incredibly poor form to attempt to control my browser size - when I visit a site I want to do so in my choice of browser size, not yours. I wouldn'y purchase from your site due to this, and I'm sure that a lot of other people wouldn't also. HTH
beckysmith Posted November 9, 2002 Posted November 9, 2002 I really hate that new window pop-up and framed screen..... the site design is nice but it's far too flashy. Keep things simple and people will buy. Customers like to bookmark pages too....
Rodland Posted November 10, 2002 Author Posted November 10, 2002 Hi, Thanks for your points. First of all the frames have helped when the design was first created about 2 years ago. The design isn't the problem - the shopping system and the popup is, as well as a few other bits and bobs. When I create the new shopping system the website will not control the browser size - this was a mistake - but we came from a cd-rom background and for us the browser itself has always been the thing that has got in the way of the user experience we try to create (hence a lot of flash developers tend to control the browser size). Maybe when we can all access the web at the same speed as a cd-rom then we won't need a browser (there's a topic of thought!) Anyway, this doesn't answer my question - can I still use frames with osCommerce? Just to know it can be done makes osCommerce more flexible in the design department --- which cannot be a bad thing. Christian. p.s. we do get orders - and we now average 20,000 hits per day :D
Pica Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 I am about to finish a frame-based layout for my shopping-cart based on OSC. My only problem is the "expandable"-category-box as it goes over my framed space. I do give high importance to design and layout in order to keep a website as close to it's original layout (mine) as possible. Frames are not a problem... BTW, does anyone knows how to avoid the category-box from expanding?
