webmaster69 Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Hello First of all I'd like to point out this is not a thumb resize issue, it's the quality of the thumb which is the issue. I have installed and tested the main contributions that offer auto thumbnailing, they all resize the thumbs and keep the proportions and aspect very well but the quality of the thumb always suffers. If I produce the thumbs from the same images using fireworks or Photoshop then upload to my store they are perfectly clear with no loss of quality. I read that If you use square images it overcomes the problem, but I really wanted to stick with rectangle images if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank
bill110 Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I do not know if this is your issue but some of the thumbnail contributions handle jpeg better than gif. webmaster69 Posted July 1, 2007 Author Posted July 1, 2007 Thanks for your reply, all my images are gifs, I'll check this out. Yes you are right it works great with jpegs The only problem I have is that all my images are gifs, and I don't really want to convert them all, then update the whole store. If anyone knows how to add gif support I would be really grateful. I am using OTF Auto Thumbnailer using GD Library, which works great apart from the issue with gif quality when reduced.
spax Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 There's a configuration option in that contribution to output a gif as a jpg. Look in product_thumb.php to use it.

spax Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Ok! I have never used that option as I don't use gifs for products. You could use one of the other thumbnail mods that use a different size for the thumb but if you are going to do that, I guess you may as well change the gifs for jpgs. I know you say it isn't a resize issue but have you tried to just have one dimension set in admin? Like set the small width and leave the height blank.
